Traveling has always been a passion of ours, and when my husband Marc got the opportunity to compete in his first international runs, we knew we had to make it an adventure to remember. So, we packed our motorhome, full of excitement and a few butterflies in our stomachs, and set off from the charming town of Dijon towards the stunning ski resort of Courchevel.
Our journey began in Dijon, a city known for its rich history and, of course, its delicious mustard. We took a moment to enjoy a breakfast of fresh pastries at a local café before hitting the road. The early morning sun cast a golden glow over the vineyards as we navigated the picturesque French countryside. As we traveled, we reminisced about our favorite moments together and how far we had come.
Dijon to Courchevel is about a 350-kilometer journey, and while it could be done in just a few hours by car, we relished the flexibility of our motorhome. We took detours through quaint villages and stopped at roadside markets to sample local cheeses and charcuterie. Every turn brought new delights, and the freedom of the open road added a special thrill to our trip.
Our route took us through some breathtaking landscapes, including the rolling hills of Bourgogne and the majestic French Alps. We made a mandatory stop at a scenic viewpoint where the mountains seemed to stretch endlessly into the horizon—Marc snapped photos, his excitement palpable as we approached his competition destination.
As evening approached, we found a lovely camping spot near a lake, where we parked our motorhome. We cooked dinner together, enjoying the beauty of nature as the sun dipped behind the mountains. After sharing a bottle of local wine, we settled in for the night, with the soothing sounds of nature surrounding us.
After a restful night, we awoke refreshed and eager to reach Courchevel. The final leg of our journey was filled with anticipation. The drive into the Alps was nothing short of magical; the winding roads and towering peaks ignited a sense of wanderlust we often craved.
Upon our arrival in Courchevel, the crisp mountain air filled with the scent of pine welcomed us. The snow-capped mountains created a stunning backdrop, making this not just a competition destination but a winter wonderland. Marc’s excitement was contagious as we set up the motorhome in an idyllic campsite conveniently located near the competition venue.
The day of the competition arrived, and with it came a mix of nerves and excitement. Marc had trained for this moment, and I knew how much it meant to him. As I watched him prepare, I felt an overwhelming sense of pride.
The runs were exhilarating, showcasing not just Marc’s talent but also the spirit of camaraderie among competitors. I cheered him on from the sidelines, my heart racing as he took on each run. The atmosphere was electric, filled with supporters and fellow athletes sharing in the thrill of the competition.
After an adrenaline-filled day, Marc concluded his runs with a huge smile—he had achieved what he had set out to do, and that ignited a celebration worthy of such an achievement! We enjoyed a lovely dinner in a local restaurant, indulging in traditional Savoyard dishes like fondue and raclette, basking in the joy of the day’s accomplishments.
As we settled down for the night. It was more than just a trip; it was a celebration of Marc’s hard work and dedication, a testament to the adventures we love to share.
