Not long after our European road trip, Marc and I felt the call of adventure once again. This time, we didn’t need to travel far—Snowdonia, with its dramatic landscapes and towering peaks, beckoned us for a much-needed escape. We packed our motorhome, brought Bernice along, and headed out from London, eager to experience the beauty of Wales.
As we arrived in Snowdonia, we were blown away by the scenery. The vast mountains, deep valleys, and lush greenery stretched out as far as the eye could see. We parked our motorhome in an incredibly scenic spot, surrounded by rolling hills and with a view that made us feel completely immersed in nature. It was the kind of place that makes you want to breathe in deeply and take it all in. Spending the night there, tucked away under the stars, felt peaceful and rejuvenating.
The next day, we set off to explore the famous hiking trails. Snowdonia is known for its rugged beauty, and the landscape did not disappoint. Craggy peaks, serene lakes, and winding paths offered some of the most breathtaking views we’d seen on our travels. As the wind picked up, it added a sense of adventure to our hike—typical for the Welsh weather!
Bernice, however, wasn’t as excited about the gusty conditions. We had her trekking rucksack ready, so she could enjoy the hike in comfort while being carried. Once she was safely inside, nestled in her little pack, Bernice was happy to come along for the ride as we tackled the trails.
One of the highlights of Snowdonia is its incredible variety of landscapes. From the iconic Mount Snowdon, the highest peak in Wales, to the crystal-clear lakes like Llyn Llydaw and Llyn Padarn, the park offers endless opportunities for exploring. We opted for some moderate hikes around the lower hills and lakes, allowing us to soak in the scenery without too much strain. Even though we didn’t attempt the full ascent of Mount Snowdon this time, the trails we explored were stunning in their own right, with sweeping views of the valleys and mountain ranges.
Snowdonia has a wild and untamed feel that sets it apart from other destinations we’ve visited. The air is crisp, and there’s a sense of peaceful isolation that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a different world. Everywhere we looked, there were rolling hills and dramatic peaks in the distance, and the ever-changing light made the landscape feel alive.
For Marc and me, hiking through this rugged beauty, with Bernice happily enjoying the ride, was an unforgettable experience. It was a refreshing break from the city and a reminder of how powerful nature can be in grounding us. Snowdonia has a way of humbling you—its towering peaks and vast valleys make you feel small in the best possible way.
As the sun began to set and we made our way back to the motorhome, we were treated to a breathtaking sunset over the mountains, with golden light bathing the landscape. It was the perfect end to a day filled with adventure and awe-inspiring views. Snowdonia, with its raw beauty and endless horizons, had certainly left its mark on us.
Although our time in Snowdonia was short, it was packed with memorable moments, from the windy hikes to the peaceful evenings in our motorhome. It was another reminder that sometimes the best adventures are right in your backyard—or, in this case, just a few hours from home.
