A Scenic Journey from Courchevel to Lake Como: With Bernice Along for the Ride

After an incredible few days in the snowy paradise of Courchevel, Marc and I packed up our motorhome and set off for our next destination—Lake Como, Italy. The excitement of a new adventure filled the air, and we were thrilled to have our beloved dog, Bernice, joining us every step of the way. Her adventurous spirit made her the perfect travel buddy, and she was just as ready for the journey as we were.

Leaving the majestic French Alps behind, we made our way through a beautiful and ever-changing landscape. Snow-capped peaks turned into rolling green valleys, and soon, we were surrounded by the picturesque charm of northern Italy. Bernice, settled comfortably in the motorhome, watched the scenery change with her usual calmness—always content to be part of whatever adventure came next.

When we finally arrived at Lake Como, we were met with the stunning sight of deep blue waters surrounded by mountains and elegant villas. It felt like stepping into a postcard, and we couldn’t wait to explore.

Of course, no trip to Lake Como would be complete without a boat ride, and Bernice wasn’t about to miss out! We hired a boat to take in the lake’s famous villas from the water, and Bernice eagerly hopped aboard. With her ears flapping in the breeze and her nose sniffing the air, she looked like she was born to be on the water.

As we cruised along the lake, we passed some of the most famous movie locations, including Villa del Balbianello, where parts of Star Wars: Episode II were filmed. Being a massive Star Wars fan, I couldn’t resist quoting one of my favorite lines from the movie. Turning to Marc with a grin, I said, “I don’t like sand. It’s coarse, and rough, and irritating... and it gets everywhere.”

Marc gave me a puzzled look. He’d never seen Star Wars, but I found it absolutely hilarious and couldn’t stop laughing. He just shook his head with a smile, clearly thinking I was a little ridiculous. But hey, what’s a boat ride without some Star Wars humor, right?

As we continued our journey across the lake, we passed the stunning Villa Carlotta and the famous Villa Oleandra, owned by George Clooney. Seeing these grand, movie-worthy homes up close was amazing, and it felt like we were floating through a world of old Hollywood glamour. Bernice, always curious, took it all in, sitting contently in the boat, enjoying the gentle ride.

After an afternoon of exploring the lake, we headed back to the motorhome, parked in a perfect spot by the shore. As the sun began to set over the water, Bernice curled up beside us, and we took in the beauty of Lake Como, feeling incredibly lucky to experience it all together.

From the snow of Courchevel to the cinematic beauty of Lake Como, this road trip had been full of surprises, laughter, and unforgettable moments. With Bernice by our side and Marc patiently tolerating my endless Star Wars quotes, we were ready for wherever the road—and the water—would take us next.
