Embarking on a road trip is an adventure in itself, but when you add the excitement of crossing borders and experiencing different cultures, it becomes an unforgettable journey. Recently, Marc and I decided to embark on a thrilling road trip from London to Belgium, opting for the Eurotunnel to make our way across the English Channel. Join us as we recount our exciting journey, filled with scenic routes, cultural discoveries, and the sheer joy of exploring Europe on four wheels. Setting Off: The Gateway to Europe As we bid farewell to London's bustling streets, we found ourselves at the Eurotunnel Terminal in Folkestone. With our vehicle securely loaded onto the Eurotunnel Shuttle, we eagerly awaited the journey to Calais, France. The 35-minute tunnel crossing beneath the Channel was speedy and smooth, leaving us with a sense of anticipation for the adventures that awaited us on the other side. Exploring the French Countryside After arriving in Calais, we hit the road and ventured inland, taking in the picturesque landscapes of the French countryside. Our route led us through charming villages, rolling hills, and sprawling vineyards. Along the way, we made pit stops at local cafes and indulged in delicious French pastries, sampling croissants and pain au chocolat that were simply exquisite. Arriving in Belgium: A Blend of Tradition and Modernity As we crossed the border into Belgium, we marveled at the seamless transition from France to this captivating country. Our first destination was the enchanting city of Bruges, known for its medieval architecture and charming canals. We wandered through narrow cobbled streets, admired the stunning Gothic architecture, and indulged in Belgian delicacies like waffles and chocolates. Continuing our journey, we made our way to the vibrant city of Brussels, Belgium's capital. The city's grand squares, such as the iconic Grand Place, left us in awe of the architectural splendor. We explored the city's rich history by visiting landmarks like the Atomium and the Royal Palace, and savored the world-famous Belgian beers and moules-frites (mussels and fries) in cozy cafés. Leaving Brussels behind, we discovered the hidden gem of Ghent. This charming city captivated us with its medieval charm, picturesque canals, and historic buildings. We climbed the Belfry Tower for panoramic views, strolled along the Graslei and Korenlei waterfront, and admired the breathtaking works of art at the famous Ghent Altarpiece. As our road trip drew to a close, we reflected on the incredible experiences we had in Belgium. From the medieval charm of Bruges to the vibrant energy of Brussels and the hidden beauty of Ghent, this country had truly captured our hearts. With a newfound appreciation for Belgian culture, history, and cuisine, we bid farewell to this remarkable destination and began our journey back to London. Our road trip from London to Belgium via the Eurotunnel was an adventure filled with remarkable sights, culinary delights, and unforgettable experiences. From traversing beneath the English Channel to exploring the medieval streets of Bruges and experiencing the grandeur of Brussels, each moment was etched into our memories.
